Union Chief Wants End To Private Schools

PRIVATE schools should be abolished and brought under state control, the new leader of Britain's biggest teachers' union said yesterday.

Bill Greenshields, president of the National Union of Teachers, condemned the Government's "direction of travel" towards what he called the privatisation of state education.

Speaking at the NUT's conference in Manchester, Mr Greenshields said bringing all schools into the state sector would lead to urgent improvements in the system.
