Campaigners Blast France Nuclear Power Deal

ANTI-NUCLEAR campaigners yesterday hit out at claims that Britain was on the brink of signing a deal with France to build power plants and export the technology globally.

Downing Street declined to comment on reports that the agreement would be sealed during next week's state visit to the UK of French President Nicolas Sarkozy in a bid to combat global warming.

But a Friends of the Earth spokesman said: "The idea of selling nuclear power around the world as a solution to climate change is just nonsense."
