Police Shoot Rioting Slum Gangs In Kenya

KENYA descended into further chaos yesterday as police gunned down rioters in the crowded Nairobi slums.

One man died of a shot to the head while another had his leg hacked off.

Violence broke out after the disputed election result last month.

At least 300 have died and 100,000 made homeless amid clashes between supporters of president Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Dozens, including women and children, were burned to death in a church in Eldoret by Odinga supporters. Rapes, looting and robberies are commonplace.

A Scots nun trapped with hundreds of refugees has begged for help. Sister Placida said: "We all know about the slaughter in Eldoret and don't know how long we can last." Glasgow priest Father Tommy Docherty is also trapped in his Eldoret home.
