Docs Want Booze Warning Labels

DOCTORS yesterday called for warning labels on alcohol in a bid to tackle Scotland's binge drinking crisis.

Their plea came as it was revealed the government's safe drinking guidelines were no more than an "intelligent guess".

Dr Peter Terry, chairman of the British Medical Association in Scotland, said: "Consistent information on alcohol content and units along with guidelines on daily drinking limits would help people better understand their drinking habits."

Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon said she would discuss labelling with Westminster if there were no "voluntary developments" in the industry.
