Old Firm raise £300,000 for cancer research

OLD FIRM managers Gordon Strachan and Walter Smith have teamed up to help raise £300,000 for cancer research.

They got together at the 29 Ball, organised by cancer sufferer Donna Ballantyne, 36, and dad James Mortimer.

The cash will go towards a Clinical Effectiveness Unit at the Beatson Oncology Centre, Glasgow, to analyse how well patients respond to treatment.

Comedian Andy Cameron, SFA boss Gordon Smith, Sir Tom Hunter, Radio Clyde DJ Suzie McGuire and former Miss Scotland Nieve Jennings also attended. The ball was staged by 29, a private members club in Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow, and held at the city centre Glasgow Hilton.
