New Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy vows to work with SNP

NEW Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy yesterday insisted he will set aside political rivalry to work with Alex Salmond.

Murphy, 41, said: "I will work with anyone who wants to put Scotland first. So when the SNP get things right, I say well done to them."

East Renfrewshire MP Murphy moved from his job as Europe Minister in the Cabinet reshuffle. He replaced Des Browne, who juggled the role with Defence.

Murphy guided tricky laws ratifying the EU's Treaty of Lisbon through Parliament. He said: "I dealt with government and personalities from the left and right to find a common cause and build coalitions.

"That's my instinct and what I will do in Scotland."
