Colin Montgomerie: New wife has made me a better man

COLIN MONTGOMERIE says his new wife's tragic past has made him a better person.

Golf ace Monty said he still gets grumpy when he's on the course but Gaynor - whose first husband George died of a heart attack in 2003 - makes him realise what real heartache is.

Monty, 43, said: "I'll come off the course and say I've had a disaster then she says, 'No you haven't. I had a disaster. Losing your husband is a disaster.'

"Being married to a girl who lost her husband puts things in perspective.

"I'm not a calmer golfer on the course and if I was I wouldn't be competitive.

But afterwards I'm a better person than I was because I understand more."

The Scots golfer wed heiress Gaynor Knowles in a £1million bash at the exclusive Loch Lomond Golf Club in April.
