A PLAQUE marking a new walk and cycle path was stolen hours after being unveiled.
Queen of the South Viaduct in Dumfries was opened on Friday by the football club's chairman Davie Rae.
But Dumfries Provost Jack Groom saw the 3ft square metal plaque was missing when he went to the viaduct for a fun run yesterday.
He said: "I couldn't believemy eyes. We informed the police right away."
The plaque marks the first of 79 similar paths being opened across the UK to encourage people to get on their bikes.
A police spokesman said: "We are investigating the theft."
