Witness: I saw the terror in Moira Jones' eyes

A WITNESS who saw murdered Moira Jones' last steps has told police how he looked into her terrified eyes as she was marched to her death.

The eye-witness was walking his dog when he noticed petite Moira, 40, looking frightened as she was steered into Queen's Park by her killer.

The elderly man was so concerned he told another dog walker.

The pair then went into the park to investigate but as they couldn't hear or see anything unusual they gave up.

And police believe the killer must have used a weapon as Moira didn't call out.

A police source said: "The evidence is dynamite. It seems certain this witness saw Moira being walked to her death.

"He is credible and feels guilty he didn't do more. But he is in no way to blame.

"He was coming out of the park by the same gate Moira went in. She looked concerned as he walked past with this guy holding on to her.

"The dog walker looked at her eyes and saw she was frightened but was wary of interfering.

"Outside the park he met another male dog walker. He was concerned enough to tell him straight away what he saw and asked him to go back into the park with him. They both went in and searched around but couldn't find anything."

Both dog walkers gave police detailed statements in the days after Moira's semi-naked body was discovered around 9.45am on May 29.

Police have also recovered DNA samples from Moira's body and are confident that once they get their man he will be convicted.

Detective Chief Inspector Derek Robertson and his team believe the Britvic sales consultant was confronted by her killer as she parked her car.

Moira returned to her Queens Drive home in her black Toyota Rav4 between 10.45 or 10.50pm after driving from boyfriend Paul Thompson's flat in Finnieston.

But last week officers said Moira may have gone back to her car between 10.50pm and 11.30pm to move it closer to her flat.

Moira suffered a sex attack and appalling injuries.

Two of the three rings she always wore and her purse was missing.

The gold rings - one with an oval green stone and the other with diamonds and rubies - could have been taken as "trophies" by the killer.
