SCOTLAND'S biggest police force has almost 200 fewer officers than last year.
And Labour yesterday claimed the drop showed Alex Salmond's pledge of 1000 extra police was "in tatters".
The First Minister promised the extra officers on the beat in the SNP's election manifesto.
But the number of Strathclyde full-time equivalent officers at the end of March was 7619 - 184 fewer than last June.
The drop has been blamed on retirements. Across Scotland's eight police forces, numbers fell from 16,265 to 16,221.
