Second police attack by Rangers fans is probed

FOOTAGE of a second police officer being beaten by a mob of Rangers fans is being investigated by police.

The three-minute mobile phone video shows drunken supporters fighting riot cops in the Piccadilly shopping area of Manchester.

As the yobs advance, some are heard to shout pro-UVF slogans.

Suddenly an officer is knocked to the ground and he is kicked on the head and body for several minutes.

At one stage one of the yobs says in a Glasgow accent: "Go on my son."

One of the mob then retreats when he is hit in the face by fans forcing themselves forward to attack the helpless officer, who is seen covering his head with his hands.

The footage, which is believed to have been taken by a Rangers fan, then shows a van of riot police arriving on the scene and dispersing the crowd.

A smaller van with police dogs also arrives and targets the yobs.

Several Rangers fans and police officers are seen going to the aid of the injured policeman.

The rioters then suddenly regroup and run up Newton Street towards another riot van, which they surround and attack.

A police source said: "This video along with the CCTV footage of rioting fans will be investigated rigorously."
