Rod Stewart's son cleared of street attack

SINGER Rod Stewart was celebrating last night after his son Sean was cleared of attacking a couple following a Hollywood party.

Prosecutors asked a Los Angeles judge to throw out the charges days before 27-year-old Sean's trial was due to start.

Sean had denied punching and throwing bricks at Tobalus and Ericka Stein and said he was a victim of mistaken identity.

His lawyer Dana Cole said Sean was being driven from a party in a Rolls-Royce when it was unable to pass the Steins' pick-up truck coming in the opposite direction.

Words were exchanged and bystanders began pelting the truck because they felt the driver was being aggressive.

Cole added: "Over the course of time, it became apparent to the district attorney's office it may have been mistaken identity.

"He's endured a year of terrible publicity so he's now very relieved someone finally got the message."

The Steins are suing Sean for assault in the civil courts but Cole said he was hopeful that would be resolved.

Sean is also being sued, along with his father and a third man, by a man who claims his nose was broken in a Hollywood nightclub in 2006.
