McRae's pals ride in tribute to star

FOUR of Colin McRae's best pals will take part in Britain's most gruelling motorbike trial in memory of the tragic driver.

They will help raise money for the Colin McRae Vision Foundation, a charity set up by the rally star's family to support young racers.

Robbie Head, 40, of Bothwell, and Robbie Allen, 66, of Strathaven, both Lanarkshire; Findlay White, 43, of Galston, Ayrshire, and Gavin Johnston, 43, of Inverness, will take part in the Scottish Six Days Trial from tomorrow.

Competitors cover more than 100 miles a day, riding across the hills and mountains around Fort William and Lochaber.

Special sections of the event see riders charging through rivers and up waterfalls on their bikes.

Team captain Robbie Head, who went to school with Colin, said: "We have entered the event to compete in the spirit of Colin McRae." McRae, 39, died with his five-year-old son Johnny when his helicopter crashed near Lanark in September.
