SNP say support for independence in Scotland has surged

Nats Say Support For Freedom Has Surged

SCOTS are swinging behind independence, say the SNP.

The Nats, who mark a year in power on Saturday, claim 14 per cent more people back breaking up the Union than last year.

A study of seven opinion polls shows support for separatism has gone up from 27 per cent last May to 41 per cent this month, while opposition to Scotland going it alone has dropped from 47 per cent to 40.

The SNP claim the results prove they are successfully building a case for independence with the public.

SNP Westminster leader Angus Robertson said: "These polls indicate a surge in support for independence. As the SNP delivers good government in devolved areas, we will build the case to be governed equally well in all areas.

"The more London tries to lay down the law to Scots, the greater the support there will be for independence."

But Scottish Labour have dismissed the polls.

Leader Wendy Alexander said: "The polls that really count are at the ballot box."
