Andy Goram chased for cash after doing a runner from five-star hotel

Exclusive Ex-Gers Ace Fails To Pay For Room In Thai Hotel

FORMER Rangers star Andy Goram did a runner from a fivestar hotel without paying his bill.

Staff had upgraded his room and gave him seven nights for the price of four - but he still fled without settling his tab.

Goalkeeper Goram, 44, was staying at the Amari Watergate in Bangkok while acting as star guest at the local St Andrew's Society Burns Supper.

The hotel's Fife-born manager David Cumming recognised the Clyde goalkeeping coach and contacted him in Scotland.

Goram, who gambled away the fortune he earned in his heyday, claimed he had been robbed and promised to pay up - but he still hasn't delivered.

David has now been forced to write to Goram's bosses at First Division Clyde to try to recover the £360 debt.

He said: "It's very disappointing and annoying because I told everyone who Goramwas and that hewas famous in Scotland, then he turned around and did that.

"I have tried four or five times to get him to cough up but to no avail.

"The last call I made was to a friend of his who told me not to call again as it was a waste of time.

"We were contacted by the St Andrew's Society and asked if we could do him a deal.

"I immediately said yes and when Andy turned up we enjoyed a glass of wine.

"He was great company and the British tourists who recognised him enjoyed his company, too. He kept himself to himself and didn't overdo things. He didn't leave a huge bill, about £360, but it's a lot of money here.

"He didn't attack his mini bar or run up a huge bar bill but he walked out in the early hours without paying a bean. "He later said he had been mugged in Bangkok and had his wallet taken.

"Had that been the case, he should have told us that and we could have made arrangements with him.

"To just walk out was shameful. Being a Scot who lives abroad, it does nothing for our image - especially when everybody here knows who it is.

"It is obvious Mr Goram believes he can go around doing as he wishes.

"He was a great player in his day but his reputation is not one us Scots are too proud of. He has done himself no favours."

Neither Goram nor anyone at Clyde was available for comment last night.
