Canavan Takes On Tycoon
RAMBLERS will today stage a mass protest on the estate of a millionaire tycoon who tried to fence off his land.
Former MP and MSP Dennis Canavan is leading the Ramblers Association Scotland protest at property tycoon and convicted fraudster Bill Roddie's attempts to shut them out of his estate.
Association president Canavan said yesterday Roddie, 45, had repeatedly obstructed ramblers who legally use the land under "right to roam" laws.
The multi-millionaire recently avoided charges for allegedly punching a runner on his land after police said there was not enough evidence.
Canavan, whose home is next to the estate near Bannockburn, Stirlingshire, said: "He has tried bullying and harassment but this event shows that people won't give in to that kind of intimidation."
Roddie will be served with an enforcement order by Stirling Council before the end of this month insisting he takes down high fences and gates put up to discourage walkers.
Canavan said: "I'm pleased the council are taking appropriate action."
