Acid Nut Wrecks Beemer

Caught In Act: Cctv Cameras At Colin's Home Catch Acid Attack..but Cops Claim They Can't Charge Him

A BUSINESSMAN is so desperate to catch the vandal who wrecked his BMW with acid he is offering a s1000 reward.

Colin McGinn caught the criminal in the act on CCTV but police say they can't make an arrest because there are no witnesses to back up the film.

Frustrated dad-of-two Colin has stuck posters on his damaged motor offering the cash to anyone who helps nail the culprit.

Acid was thrown over his 5-series BMW as it sat in the drive of his home in Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire, causing s4000 of damage.

He has driven around with paint stripped from his s25,000 car since the incident, which he blames on a business row.

Colin, 46, the editor of a local magazine, said: "I won't get my car repaired until the police catch who did this.

"The reward money would cover my excess insurance costs and any future no claims losses but I'd rather drive around with a wrecked car and catch the culprit than let them escape justice.

"I think the police know who did this but the picture isn't overly clear and they say they need witnesses but so far nobody has come forward.

"Everyone talks about pro-active policing but what we really need is to see the return of the local bobby on the streets. What I'm doing is out of sheer frustration."

A Strathclyde police spokesman said: "The matter was reported to police and inquiries were carried out.

"Unfortunately there was unsufficient evidence to report anyone to the procurator fiscal."
