Campaign For Glasgow Airpor Bomb Heroes To Hit Streets

THE campaign calling for bravery medals for three snubbed airport heroes will hit the streets next weekend.

The families of Michael Kerr, 40, Stephen Clarkson, 42, and Alex McIlveen, 45, have been fighting for them to be awarded a Queen's Gallantry Medal.

We told this month how Prime Minister Gordon Brown's officials refused them the same honour as airport worker John Smeaton.

Heating engineer Michael, of Denny, Stirlingshire, suffered a broken leg and smashed teeth as he fought the bombers. Glasgow builder Stephen wrestled one, Kafeel Ahmed, to the ground, while taxi driver Alex tore a tendon as he kicked out at him.

But the Cabinet Office said their actions "did not reach the standard for a gallantry award".

Michael's wife, Annette Kerr, launched an online campaign demanding that all the heroes get medals.

She will ask people to sign her petition in Glasgow on Saturday.

She said: "We are asking people to sign this petition even if they have signed online on our website, www.medals4all.com."
