Logbook Sharks Seize Carol's Car

Debt Collectors Swoop On Motor..even Though Mum Doesn't Owe Them A Penny

AN angry couple claim bailiffs from greedy loans firm Logbook seized their car...because the previous owner still owed them cash.

Carol-Anne and Antony Fox were stunned when debt collectors Anglia UK Limited turned up to repossess their S-reg Ford Mondeo.

The mystified couple, of Tullibody, Clackmannanshire, had never had any dealings with either firm.

The Sunday Mail revealed last week how Logbook Loans charged exorbitant interest - often topping 300 per cent - and usually tackled the most vulnerable people, offering loans without credit checks.

Mum-of-two Carol-Anne, 32, said: "We got up on Tuesday morning to find our car had been clamped.

"It turned out the person we had bought the car from had defaulted on a Logbook loan.

"The men from Anglia came back and took the car away. We had the logbook but hey said they had the right to take it as we were not the legal owners, just the keepers.

"They have said that if the owner pays up we can get the car back, otherwise it will be sold.

"They also say if we pay £300 we can get the car back. But that is almost half what we paid for it and we can't afford it."

Logbook Loans director Barry Pilgrim said: "We are a professionally-operated company which always acts in a responsible manner.

"We adopt a sympathetic approach to any customer in financial difficulties and try to come up with a satisfactory solution."

Top lawyer Austin Lafferty said: "A private car buyer who has no knowledge of a vehicle's HP or loan takes full legal ownership.

"Logbook Loans and their collectors have acted illegally and should return the car immediately."
