Salmond Backs Major Scots Film Studio

The Snp At Aviemore Sunday Mail Reveals Shock Opinion Poll

SCOTLAND could finally have its own major film studio under plans being considered by Alex Salmond.

Despite the box office success such as Trainspotting, movie producers are reluctant to film in Scotland because of a shortage of suitable facilities.

But the SNP government says it would back proposals for a dedicated home-grown studio. Culture Minister Linda Fabiani said: "We want to see more film companies choosing Scotland as a film location.

"We would consider any valid proposal for developing studio space that could establish itself as a viable and self-sufficient business."

The move follows a visit to Scotland this month by American producers of films such as The Fantastic Four. They were invited by Scottish Screen to see what Scotland has to offer.

Mike Heard, vice-president of physical production for 20th Century Fox, told the Sunday Mail: "I was charmed by Scotland and would love to bring a picture there. But without a studio facility, it would be untenable.

"If the Scottish government can get behind creating a film stage, it would create a lot of interest."
