The Brave Art Winners of One Day in Scotland

Inspirational Winners Take Their Place Beside Painting Giants

IT already houses some of the world's masterpieces - now Kelvingrove Museum will host these inspirational works by talented Scots children.

The eye-popping pictures were among hundreds of entries in the Sunday Mail's One Day In Scotland art contest for under 15s.

We asked young readers to capture one special moment that sums up being Scottish.

The winners and runners-up will take pride of place in the Glasgow museum near to works by Van Gogh, Rembrandt and Dali.

Last week judges Ewan Hunter of the Hunter Foundation charity and Chris Van Der Kuyl, chief executive of Scotland Online, had the tough job of picking winners. They are:

Under nine category: Winner: Robbie McNeice, seven, Port Glasgow. Runners-up: Kelsie Druggan, eight, Auchinleck, Ayrshire; Megan Grant, seven, Slamannan, Stirlingshire.

Nine to 12: Winner: Jack Daly, 11, Polmont, Stirlingshire. Runners-up: Rachael Cunningham, nine, Jamestown, Dunbartonshire; Kieran Graham, 12, Falkirk; Becca Blackwood, 10, also Falkirk.

Teenage: Winner: Philippa Stevenson, 15, Larbert, Stirlingshire.

The winners will star in One Day In Scotland at the museum's Centre of Enlightenment in the Campbell Hunter Educational Wing.

Tycoon Sir Tom Hunter donated £5million for the museum's refurbishment. The Educational Wing is named after his father Campbell, 80.

Judge Ewan Hunter said: "It was a fantastic effort by Scotland's young people, making judging a nightmare."

Internet tycoon Chris said: "There is great creative talent out there." All the other pictures we received will also be included in the exhibition.
