Billionare Donald Trump shows soft side to help old TV star

BILLIONAIRE American entrepreneur Donald Trump has shown his softer side by helping a down-on-his-luck TV star.

Trump, who starred in the American version of the reality TV series The Apprentice and is renowned as a ruthless businessman, stepped in to stop cash strapped Ed McMahon from becoming homeless.

McMahon, 85, was the sidekick of legendary TV chat show host Johnny Carson for three decades but a neck injury means he has not been able to work for 18 months.

He couldn't keep up the repayments on the £2.6million mortgage on his Beverly Hills mansion and last week the mortgage company made moves to repossess the six bedroom home.

However, kind-hearted Trump, 62, has said he will buy the house and lease it to McMahon.

Trump, who made his fortune from property development and plans to build the world's best golf course near Aberdeen, said he did not know McMahon personally but helping him "would be an honour".
