Three-Hour Blaze Scare At Refinery

A BLAZE broke out just after 2am yesterday at the giant Grangemouth oil refinery when oil spilled on to piping.

Forty firefighters with six engines and a command unit sped to the fire at the Stirlingshire plant but the refinery's fire personnel had managed to get it under control.

The Central Scotland fire squad stayed at the scene for about three hours to work with the emergency staff.

No one was hurt but an investigation will be carried out.

A refinery spokesman said: "It was a small incident."

Around 1200 workers at the refinery went on strike last month in a dispute over changes to their pension scheme.
