NATO fighters are breaking safety rules when they escort Russian bombers, it was claimed yesterday.
Russian air force chief Alexander Zelin said NATO aircraft approach Russian bombers too closely and too often over neutral waters.
Most of the contacts come over the Arctic Ocean and Zelin added they "violate flight safety rules in every way" and risk collisions.
He also claimed it amounted to an "attack" as the NATO planes were training for combat.
Russia is becoming increasingly assertive, showing off its military firepower at the recent May Day parade.
