Troubled Singer's Night In Cells Ends With A Caution

TROUBLED Amy Winehouse was freed from the cells yesterday after being cautioned over a drunken slap.

The award-winning singer admitted common assault after spending Friday night in a police station.

She was arrested after two men claimed she attacked them in London.

One man said Winehouse, 24, had punched him in the face when he got in her way as she played a game of pool in a pub on Wednesday.

The other said the singer headbutted him when he tried to hail her a taxi outside a bar in Camden.

A Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed: "She has been cautioned for common assault."

The Rehab star admitted slapping one of the men after she voluntarily turned up at Holburn police station on Friday evening.

But a doctor had initially ruled that she was unfit to be interviewed after two days of partying.

Winehouse, worth an estimated s10million, had to spend a night in the cells until she was well enough to answer questions.

She finally left the police station at 10.30am - through a back door to avoid a media scrum.

The caution will remain on her record and be taken into account if she offends again.

The singer's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is currently being held in prison on remand on trial-fixing charges.

There were claims that their 11-month marriage was over after Winehouse was spotted in the arms of her manager's assistant Alex Haynes, 24, just before her latest outburst.

Winehouse's spokesman said: "Amy was fully co-operative with inquiries and apologised for the incident."
