Ex-partner of drowned mum is banned from funeral

THE ex-partner of a mum who drowned in a canal claims police banned him from her funeral.

Alistair MacKenzie was told to stay away from the service for divorced mum-of-four Christina Cameron, 45.

She died along with Calum MacInnes, 52, when he drove his van into the Caledonian Canal, at Banavie, Invernessshire, last month after she ended their relationship.

MacKenzie, 54, was jailed for five weeks earlier this year for assaulting Christina and breaching probation by going to their home.

MacKenzie,of Corpach, near Fort William, said: "Two officers told me I would be arrested if Iwentto the funeral. I was shocked and appalled.

"I do not think they have the right to do that."

A Northern Constabulary spokesman said: "Mr MacKenzie would not have been told he would be arrested simply for turning up.

"He may have been told he could face arrest if he caused a disturbance."
