A POLICE officer involved in youth work has been charged with public indecency.
Acting Sergeant Adrian Merron, 44, is also accused of obtaining classified information from the police computer and could stand trial at the High Court.
The indecency claims involve incidents in Edinburgh streets.
The married dad-of-three, of Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, was stationed at nearby Dalkeith.
He has been involved in a youth crime crackdown and has worked with young people as part of his job. Lothian and Borders Police said: "A 44-year-old officer was suspended from duty on March 12 for wilful neglect of duty. It would be inappropriate to comment."
Merron, who has been with Lothian and Borders since 1989, was previously suspended in 1997. He was allowed to return to duty after several months.
The Belfast-born former RUC officer appeared on petition at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. He made no plea and was released on bail.
His wife Louise said at their home: "I can't say anything."
