Win the chance to design the menu and cook the meal at Great Scot Awards

OUR Great Scots Awards is the night when stars come out...and you could be cooking for them.

The Sunday Mail has teamed up with supermarket chain Morrisons to give one young cook the chance to design the menu for this year's ceremony.

The winner's three-course meal will be served up to 750 VIPs at the glittering Great Scots Awards at the Glasgow Hilton on September 20.

And the triumphant chef will get the chance to see their menu enjoyed on the night by a host of Scots celebrities.

We are looking for a keen cook, aged 16-24, to design the ultimate Scots menu.

Entrants should come up with a starter, main course and dessert using seasonal Scottish products.

The menus will be judged by a distinguished panel including Sunday Mail editor Allan Rennie, columnist and chef Michael Kilkie, Morrisons Director Scotland David Gardner and a top chef from the Glasgow Hilton.

They will choose three finalists to take part in a cook-off at Michael's Jefferson restaurant in Kilmarnock.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get tips from professional chefs while showing what is great about Scottish food.

Michael said: "The Great Scots are a celebration of the great things achieved by ordinary people in Scotland and this year's menu will be a celebration of Scotland on a plate.

"I will be really excited to see what the young people come up with.

"There is a shortage of homegrown chefs but this will raise awareness of the opportunities available for youngsters with flair."

Morrisons' home economist Sandra Clegg said: "We are looking for chefs to use Scottish products well, by exhibiting high levels of culinary skill and designing a balanced menu using complementary ingredients.

"You don't have to be a professional...you just need the ability to serve up dishes of a high level."

Sunday Mail Editor Allan Rennie added: "A great event requires great food and a great chef. This is a brilliant opportunity for Scots to showcase their culinary skills and share a night with the stars."

If you think you can cut it in the kitchen, log on to www.greatscotawards.co.uk before July 21.
