Exclusive Romeo Sam Proposes To Girlfriend By Remaking Her Favourite Pop Video

ROMANTIC Sam Doak hit upon a Killer way of popping the question - by starring in a remake of his girlfriend's favourite music video.

He went down on one knee while playing Killers singer Brandon Flowers in a shot-for-shot remake of the promo for the band's hit Read My Mind.

After making the film in secret, Sam had it screened in New York store K-Mart while on holiday with girlfriend Gillian Clarke.

The 35-year-old had the shop's boss play it on 30 big screens.

Gillian, 33, was overwhelmed with joy and surprise but - after recovering from the shock - happily said yes.

She said: "Sam's a huge romantic and I knew he would never make a regular proposal but I never expected anything as elaborate as this.

"When I saw it I was too shocked to even cry - it was unbelievable.

"All his friends are now worried their proposals won't live up to Sam's.

In the Killers' video, the band's frontman Brandon Flowers cycles round Tokyo and it features a dancing Elvis.

Sam's version was shot in Glasgow and has him dressed as the Mr Brightside singer visiting landmarks such as the Squinty Bridge and Ashton Lane.

In the final scene Gillian's twin godchildren Ben and Luke Mair, three, appear wearing T-shirts with the message: "Marry Me".

The film took more than three months to complete and has been viewed by thousands after being posted on YouTube.

Car park manager Sam said: "I was at T in the Park when I realised just how big a fan of The Killers Gillian was.

"She played that song over and over and the video was on MTV all the time.

"I knew I wanted to propose in New York and this seemed the perfect way to do it. It took a long time to make the video and there were times when I never wanted to hear that song ever again, especially when I was editing it all together.

"It was tough not being found out, especially when I had to grow a silly little moustache for some of the scenes.

"Some of the props were hard to find too. I had to get a green puppet sent over from a guy in Japan. But it was all worth it when she said yes."

Lab technician Gillian added: "It was my favourite song anyway but now it will be special for ever.

"He's my Mr Brightside and I love him to bits."

The couple, who have been together for nine years, tied the knot last month after a sixmonth engagement.

They wed at a romantic and intimate civil ceremony at the St Andrews in the Square function rooms in Glasgow's city centre.

Sam and Gillian, of the city's Partick area, continued the Killers theme by walking down the aisle to Romeo And Juliet from the band's album Sam's Town.

They also mentioned Read My Mind in their vows, which they wrote themselves and read in front of just 16 guests. The thrilled newlyweds then celebrated their nuptials with a huge party for 200 of their friends and family.

Gillian said: "It was a wonderful day - just how we had pictured it.

"We wanted it to be quite light-hearted and personal and that's how it was.

"I wouldn't have changed any of it."

The couple will jet off on their honeymoon to California in July.
