Pets of the Week

BAILEY

This two-year-old working cocker spaniel lives with June Aitken in Larbert, Stirlingshire.

Where did you get him?

From a breeder in Dunfermline.

What does he eat?

He is a very fussy eater and if he could, he would only eat chicken or liver.

Where is his name from?

I named him after my favourite liqueur and also because of his rich, creamy colouring.

What does he like doing?

He loves going for long walks, especially where there is water. He also enjoys chasing birds and burying things in the garden.

How does he behave around people?

He loves visitors and gets very excited, especially when my four grandchildren come to see him. They love to teach him new tricks.

What's the oddest thing he has done?

Last year my daughter took him for a walk around the Ochil Hills and he jumped right down into a pool.

WALLACE AND BRUCE

These seven-year-old and three-year-old Boxers, Wallace and Bruce, live with Elizabeth Anderson in Sauchie, Clackmannanshire. Where did you get them?

Wallace came from boxer rescue when he was 10 months old and Bruce came from a breeder in Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

What do they eat?

Winalot dog meat with mixer but they like pasta, beef and custard creams.

Where are their names from?

Wallace was already named, so we felt our second boxer should be called Bruce, like William Wallace and Robert The Bruce.

What do they like doing?

Wallace likes jumping in puddles, while Bruce likes chasing deer and squirrels.

How do they behave around people?

They bark because they are a bit wary of strangers.

What's the oddest thing they've done?

Wallace kept running up a snow-covered hill then sliding down on his back.

HARLEY

This three-year-old Airedale terrier lives with Linda and John Forbes in Burnside, near Glasgow.

Where did you get him?

From a breeder in Beckingham, Doncaster.

What does he eat?

Anything. But his main meals are James Wellbeloved dried dog food and Pedigree pouches. He also loves most veg and fish.

Where is his name from?

We just liked it and thought it suited him.

What does he like doing?

He loves going for long walks and playing in big puddles and mud. He also likes meeting other dogs, chasing birds and squirrels and barking at people who walk past our house.

How does he behave around people?

He barks until someone answers the door, then he's happy and wants attention. We don't need a doorbell when Harley's about.

What's the oddest thing he has done?

Everything - he's a very weird dog. He won't eat or drink out of metal bowls and he gets upset if something is out of place - he barks until you move it back.

KIMMY

This one-year-old springer spaniel lives with Rebecca, Marjory and Brian Callanin in Renton, West Dunbartonshire.

Where did you get her?

We adopted her from a bad home.

What does she eat?

Dog food but she loves doggy biscuits.

Where is her name from?

Before we got her, her name was Kim but we thought Kimmy suited her better.

What does she like doing?

She loves cuddles, long energetic walks and playing with her toys.

How does she behave around people?

She is very shy at first but when she gets to know you she sits beside you all the time looking for a cuddle.

What's the oddest thing she has done?

She likes to lick yogurt cartons when we are finished with them and she puts her head on your lap when she wants a doggy biscuit. She also rattles her lead when she wants to go for a walk and hops around in circles when she wants your attention.
