One in five dogs are thought to suffer with arthritis, which can strike at any age.

Some breeds - such as labradors, German shepherds and golden retreivers - are at a higher risk due to their genetic make-up and obesity also makes arthritis more likely. Joint problems, stress, trauma and infection are also known risk factors.
