Olympic star's failed firm back in running

A FAILED events firm run by former Olympic runner Brian Whittle is being pulled back from liquidation.

PB Events Ltd, which Whittle ran with ex-Scotland rugby ace Derek Stark, officially went bust three weeks ago but its Glasgow premises have been deserted since June.

The firm fell into trouble after charging customers £170 a time to see Bill Clinton speak in Scotland but the event was cancelled when sponsors pulled out. Provisional liquidator Invocas Business Recovery was appointed on July 29.

Now Invocas tell me the liquidation is being withdrawn, which gives some hope for their customers.

Reader Anne McDougall is £223 down after buying two tickets for the Clinton speech at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre. Civil servant Anne, 45, of the city's Ferryhill, phoned and wrote to PB Events but got nowhere.

She said: "I got a letter in June saying they'd submitted a claim to their insurance firm and they would try to refund my money. But their phone just rings out."

Anne has failed to claim her money back from her bank because she paid by debit card.

Whittle couldn't be contacted.
