Inventor Brian Carlin
PARAMEDIC Brian was so frustrated with his equipment for dealing with serious crashes he invented a device that could save thousands of lives.
Brian, 39, of Dundee, hopes his ResQRoll will be picked up by emergency services all over the world.
The job: ResQRoll is a apliable device that can be used to extract people with spinal injuries in safety.
How I did it: When someone is in a life-threatening situation you don't always have time to get them out safely.
I started thinking about alternatives and testing them on plastic dummies when I came up with ResQRoll. You can apply it without having to get in the vehicle so there is less risk to the emergency services.
It has been endorsed by specialists in the spinal unit at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.
Five-year plan: It is early days but I am hoping one big firm will take it on and the rest follow.
Perks: This is an ethical device, it is not about profit. It would be great to see it in use around the world.
