PLANS for a new open-cast mine - which could create 240 jobs have been given a boost.

Proposals for the Rigg site near Kirkconnel, in Dumfries-shire, were given the green light by Dumfries and Galloway Council. The final decision rests with the Scottish Government.

The firm behind the plans, ATH Resources, says the move will create 104 jobs plus another 135 indirect posts.
