AIR HOSTESS SALES EXECUTIVE
After completing a Business Degree at Glasgow Caledonian University, Tracy Edgar set her sights on a high-flying job.
Tracy, 30, of Johnstone, Renfrewshire, combined her academic success and her love of travel when she moved to Dubai to join Emirates Airlines as an air hostess. But after two years in the Middle East she decided to come home and go for a grounded career.
She worked in IT for a couple of years but decided she wanted to put her people skills to good use and shifted career again.
Tracy now works as a sales executive for home builders Barratt West Scotland and says she is really enjoying her new challenge.
She said: "I enjoyed my time in Dubai. It was such a personal and invaluable experience travelling to different destinations and taking in the cultures.
"As Emirates sponsored Chelsea Football Club, I was often involved at various functions at the games as the face of Emirates which was god fun.
"My new job is so varied. Every single day is different and I am learning all the time."
IT OFFICER DOG TRAINER
LYNN ALARDYCE'S leap of faith took her from the IT department of Glasgow City Council to the Lanarkshire village of Greengairs, near Airdrie, where she now works as a dog trainer and psychologist.
Lynn, 43, spent 16 years with the council before a four-legged friend inspired her to set up in business. She said: "I felt I had gone as far as I could and thought: 'Hold on a minute, I may be here for the rest of my working life. Do I really want to do this?' So I decided to look for a new challenge."
Lynn signed up for a two-year course in dog behaviour before starting her firm Pet Behaviour Scotland four years ago.
She said: "There are days when you may get two aggressive dogs and you think to yourself: 'Maybe sitting in front of a computer is not such a bad idea after all'.
"In some cases people come along to see me as a last resort. So it's great to think that you could save an animals life or save it from a re-housing sanctuary.
"The most rewarding part comes from reuniting contented dogs with their owners."
