Our 54-Year Love Affair With Builder

Anne And Harold Snap Up New Mactaggart And Mickel Home

Anne and Harold Brown's love for their family home has never wavered. So they didn't hesitate when a development by the same builder sprung up nearby - more than half a century later.

The couple's first home was a three bedroom villa from long-established family firm Mactaggart and Mickel - and when they decided to downsize they stuck to what they know and found a luxury two bedroom flat by the firm only yards away.

Former teacher Anne said: "I have always had great trust in Mactaggart and Mickel and we haven't been disappointed."

The couple were mulling over selling their home, where they raised daughter Sandra, when they spotted the development.

And they were so impressed, they bought the flat off plan.

Anne, 79, said: "I moved straight up from Somerset after I got married, so I didn't see our first home before it was built either."

Retired engineer Harold, 84, added: "We were sitting having our coffee one morning when a letter arrived saying we should go along to a meeting with the sales rep.

"We were so excited we arrived two hours early and were first in the queue.

"I'm so glad we went as the first release of properties were all sold that day."

The Browns bought their original three bedroom villa in Glasgow's Clarkston from Mactaggart and Mickel 54 years ago.

Harold said: "It was just after the war and materials were in short supply. All the fixtures and fittings were functional but basic.

"What a difference it is to come into our new apartment and find everything of such a high standard - it really is first class.

"I was a civil engineer so I know quality workmanship when I see it."

Mactaggart and Mickel sales consultant Anna Adams, who sold the flat at the Aidan's Brae site to the couple, said: "We're delighted they have had so many happy years in a Mactaggart and Mickel property.

"It's not unusual for people to buy one or two Mactaggart and Mickel homes in a lifetime but this is undoubtedly the longest gap between sales. But I think it was worth waiting for."

Aidan's Brae features a range of homes, from penthouses to townhouses. Maree-style three-storey, two-bedroom townhouses start at £274,945. Contact the sales office on 0141 639 7826 or see www.macmic.co.uk
