BUT DOMESTIC GODDESSES & KITCHEN QUEENSHAVE TO DO THE WASHING UP SOMETIMES

To remove water stains from a textured, light-coloured ceiling, mix water with a drop of bleach, pop into a spray bottle and skoosh on to the mark. Leave it to dry and the stain should disappear.

To remove pen or magic marker from nearly any hard surface - stained wood, plastic, dolls' faces, walls and flooring - try toothpaste. It works incredibly well but be sure not to use a paste containing bleach on coloured surfaces or slight fading may occur.

Try using coffee filters to prevent soil washing out of flowerpots. The next time you re-pot your plants place a coffee filter at the bottom of the empty pot (over the drainage hole) then add the soil - the water should still pass easily but the soil won't drain away!
