Why Is My Tap Water Always Tepid In The Morning?

Q Since I had my new bathroom fitted in June, the tap water won't ever run beyond lukewarm in the mornings. The rest of the day it is fine. Why is this?

A Contact your boiler manufacturer. If you have a new boiler it will be under guarantee. Most service engineers will be able to advise you on why there is a temperature difference and how to remedy it.

Q I have just applied my second coat of gloss paint to my woodwork but have noticed a few drips. Do I have to restrip it and start again or is there a quick way to make them less noticeable?

A It sounds like you didn't lightly sand between gloss coats. When painting, don't overload your brush and make sure you spread it or it will gather into a drop. Luckily, you don't have to sand back to the bare wood again. Sand down the drips when dry and apply a fresh coat.

Q Why does plasterboard have different coloured outer coatings? Can you paper them all?

A The colours of plasterboard produced by British Gypsum are for ease of identification. Each colour shows its purpose. White or ivory is the standard board for rooms, while blue is used for acoustic reasons. Green is for when there is a higher than normal moisture content while pink is for fire rating. They all are wallboards and can be decorated.

Q Can I lay Tile Loc flooring on top of carpet?

A I'm not familiar with this flooring so all I can advise is that you follow the manufacturer's instructions. The flooring pack should have an information line or the stockist where you bought the product may be able to help. Sometimes you can lay laminate on top of carpet, it depends on the pile. I'd play it safe and remove the carpet then install underlay specified for the flooring.

Q I have a new wrought iron gate and want to reduce the wind rushing through the bars. Any ideas how to do it?

A The only thing you can do is cover it with timber or plywood but I'd just change the gate if it really bothers you.
