You'd be amazed at how many people replace their toilet seat at this time of year - maybe because of damage at those wild Hogmanay parties I hear so much about.
It's important to appreciate the importance of a good-quality toilet seat, as many of us spend a good bit of our lives perched on one.
The secret to a good throne is all in the seat itself.
Nowadays you can buy some snazzy seatage - clear, sparkly, striped, even fishy.
But I'm more of a traditional man and prefer the classic white toilet with the black seat.
Most modern toilet seats are fully adjustable to fit any toilet pan, which allows you to customise your bathroom to your own favourite design.
So the next time you celebrate a bit too enthusiastically at party time, you'll at least have a nice new seat to feel ill on.
STEP 1
Even though toilet seats are different in shape, their adjustable fixings make them fit most toilet pans.
STEP 2
Unscrew the existing toilet seat's fixing bolts - these are found under the back of the china pan where the seat hinges are fixed.
STEP 3
All seats have hinges and in most cases the hinge covers the fixing bolts - open the hinge cover using a screwdriver and you will find the slotted mounting disc.
STEP 4
Raise or lower the seat by placing the rubber washers between the hinge and the top of the pan.
The washers have profile edges so they fit exactly into the hinge.
STEP 5
Fit the seat to the pan by passing the fixing bolts through the mounting disc and washer. It can be adjusted by rotating the disc, lining up the hinge and holes in the pan.
STEP 6
Attach the wing nuts to the fixing bolts and use a screwdriver to tighten up the bolt until the pan and seat are secured firmly together.
STEP 7
Cover the bolt head and hinge by re-placing the hinge cover over the hinge.
STEP 8
Job's done.
