I'm Pregnant

Q I'M pregnant and my mother has worried me by claiming I will lose a tooth for each child I have. Surely this isn't true?

A NO, it's just an old wives' tale. There is no evidence calcium deficiency during pregnancy affects the strength of your teeth. But hormonal changes may lead to the gums bleeding more easily so it is important that you maintain good oral hygiene. Visit your dentist regularly and keep brushing your teeth. You'll be OK.
