Q I HAVE a sore back and my GP says I have a slipped disc. What is a disc and how can it "slip" out of place?
A DISCS are the "cushions" between the bones in your spine. They are made from hard fibrous material and a jelly-like core. A disc doesn't usually "slip" - it bulges, or "herniates". This pushes on the nerves in the spine causing pain.
