Q MY daughter has started secondary school and has been told she will be getting the new vaccine for cervical cancer. Can you tell me more about it because I am undecided whether or not she should have it?
A THE vaccine protects against the Human Papilloma Virus, a sexually transmitted infection that causes 99 per cent of cervical cancers. Research shows the jab has a 70 per cent protection rate and is most effective if given to girls who are not yet sexually active.
There are "catch up" vaccinations given to girls up to 17 and medics hope the rate of cancer will drop massively.
If I had a daughter I would have her vaccinated.
